This is some general information regarding LASIK Eye Surgery.

As I’m sure you’re aware LASIK Eye vision correction surgery is becoming more and more popular for those people looking for an alternative to glasses or contacts. I recently had a conversation with one of the leading LASIK Eye Surgeons in the Atlanta GA area.

Here is some general information on LASIK surgery.

LASIK or Laser Assisted In-Situ Keratomileusis is a surgical procedure that corrects myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness) and astigmatism. LASIK is performed using a laser to gently reshape the cornea under a protective flap of tissue. Leading providers use the AMO/VISX CustomVue Laser and IntraLASE systems.

The LASIK procedure utilizes two proven surgical techniques to correct vision errors – the creation of the corneal flap and the use of the computer controlled excimer laser. The creation of the corneal flap was first introduced more than 30 years ago and has been successfully performed and perfected by surgeons worldwide. Using a laser (Intralase) or an automated microsurgical device known as a microkeratome, a protective flap of corneal tissue is created which covers the area to be reshaped by the laser.

The second technique uses a computer-controlled excimer laser with a cold, ultraviolet beam to gently sculpt the cornea, removing microscopic amounts of tissue to change the shape and allow the eye to focus more clearly. The shape or curvature of the cornea affects the eyes focusing ability. In nearsighted patients, the laser will flatten the curvature of the cornea. In farsighted patients, the laser steepens the cornea. For patients with astigmatism, the laser will contour or make the cornea more spherical in shape.

The main factors that determine the amount of calories burned are the length of time running, the weight of the runner and the speed of the runner.

Let’s take a look at a runner weighing 150 pounds and his running at various speeds for 60 minutes or one hour.

At 5 miles per hour he/she will burn 576 calories. Or basically he/she will burn 57.6 calories for every 6 minutes they are running.

At 6 miles per hour he/she will burn 684 calories. Or basically he/she will burn 68.4 calories for every 6 minutes they are running.

At 7 miles per hour he/she will burn 783 calories. Or basically he/she will burn 78.3 calories for every 6 minutes they are running.

At 8 miles per hour he/she will burn 918 calories. Or basically he/she will burn 91.8 calories for every 6 minutes they are running.

At 10 miles per hour he/she will burn 1224 calories. Or basically he/she will burn 122.4 calories for every 6 minutes they are running.

At 12 miles per hour he/she will burn 1521 calories. Or basically he/she will burn 122.4 calories for every 6 minutes they are running.

Other factors to consider.

At 5 miles per hour he/she will burn 38.4 additional calories for every 10 pounds weight over 150 pounds. Conversely a person will burn about 38.4 calories less for every 10 pounds weight under 150 pounds.

At 6 miles per hour he/she will burn 45.6 additional calories for every 10 pounds weight over 150 pounds. Conversely a person will burn about 45.6 calories less for every 10 pounds weight under 150 pounds.

At 7 miles per hour he/she will burn 52.2 additional calories for every 10 pounds weight over 150 pounds. Conversely a person will burn about 52.2 calories less for every 10 pounds weight under 150 pounds.

At 8 miles per hour he/she will burn 61.2 additional calories for every 10 pounds weight over 150 pounds. Conversely a person will burn about 61.2 calories less for every 10 pounds weight under 150 pounds.

At 10 miles per hour he/she will burn 81.6 additional calories for every 10 pounds weight over 150 pounds. Conversely a person will burn about 81.6 calories less for every 10 pounds weight under 150 pounds.

At 12 miles per hour he/she will burn 101.4 additional calories for every 10 pounds weight over 150 pounds. Conversely a person will burn about 101.4 calories less for every 10 pounds weight under 150 pounds.

There are other factors that come into play like the amount of arm motion while running, however this article is designed to give you a good idea of the amount of calories burned. The main factors that determine the amount of calories burned are the length of time running, the weight of the runner and the speed of the runner.

This study has to do with obesity, diets and weight loss. And what constitutes the best way to lose weight and keep it off.

University of Florida researchers looked at 262 obese women who were on diets, then split them into three groups based on how fast they shed the pounds.

The researchers found that the chubs who lost weight the fastest early on — 1.5 pounds or more per week — were five times more likely to have lost 10 percent of their body weight by the 18-month mark than those who lost only half a pound a week, according to the study in the International Journal of Behavioral Medicine.

However, the most important thing when it comes to losing weight is how you’re doing it. And time and time again it seems the best way to lose weight and keep it off is to limit the intake of carbs and sugar and get more protein in the diet. This is basically the Adkins diet. Another valuable tip is to walk at least 5 minutes after eating. This will in effect “trick” your body into burning the calories you just ate for energy instead of storing them as fat.
